You forget some stuff like physical sector size. That is also bound to the version of the mini mag.

I have been using Cineform codec since 2005 and even with AVCHD was converting to that codec because the Cineform codex INDEXES every frame so you edit very fast with no issues on the seeking of the video.

super solid work on this one, thanks for putting this together. I feel like the life of so many of my favorite cameras all come down to who made the sensor. My fave sensors in the world right now go to Fairchild (OG black magic pocket cam) and the dragon sensor, which seems to be Forza. I honestly wish it was easier to find the sensor creators on all the cameras out there, its a very important part of the image character.

bRAW is also just jpg2000 meaning dct or dwt for every single frame. Some for most image formats. Videos are just a series of stills.

Amazing videos! Despite the fact that RED still managed to put together a bunch of technologies and create some pretty good cameras, the way they behave and lie is unacceptable.

Cineform is a very nice codec. I've been using it for editing since I've own my first Gopro Hero 3 Black. Unfortunately Gopro made it unusable at some point.

So RED steals someone else's technology, uses vague language to patent it, then sues people for using something that RED can't even describe. Got it. This patent needs to be revoked. I also love that Black Magic beat them at their own game... actually knowing and understanding color science, creating an entirely new .braw codec instead of just stealing someone else's. RED keeps wanting to shut them down but Black Magic made it unique enough to get around RED's strange hold on the industry.

BEST video series dismantling the red HYPE! Ironically computer benchmarks still take r3d raw editing as an "PRO" index. From the efficiency perspective, I really cannot imagine how much energy wasted from this patent for not letting more efficient codecs with better image quality to be used in literally ALL cameras.
